The Evidence-Based Correctional Program Checklist 2.1 (CPC) is a tool developed by the University of Cincinnati Corrections Institute (UCCI) for assessing how well programs adhere to the research on what works in correctional intervention programs. The CPC is designed to evaluate the extent to which correctional intervention programs adhere to evidence-based practices (EBP) including the principles of effective interventions.
The CPC is divided into two basic areas: capacity and content.
Capacity area includes:
Content area includes:
The CPC is comprised of a total of 73 indicators, worth up to 79 possible points. Each domain, each area, and the overall score are tallied and rated as:
The assessment instrument is based upon an “ideal” program. As such, no program will ever score 100% on the CPC. Each program will, as a result of this process, have strengths and areas for improvement along with specific recommendations that will bring the program closer in adherence to EBP.
Finally, different versions of the CPC have been created for use in different types of correctional situations. The CPC-Group Assessment (CPC-GA) is geared toward stand-alone groups (e.g., Thinking for a Change©, Aggression Replacement Training©, outpatient substance abuse, etc.).
