Montana Women’s Prison in Billings houses approximately 225 female felony inmates. The facility provides a secure environment that emphasizes accountability, productivity and personal growth for the women who live within its walls. The women participate in a variety of gender-specific, evidence-based programming designed to assist them when they transition back to Montana communities.

Pine Hills Correctional Facility located in Miles City, Mont. is the Montana Department of Corrections’ only state-operated, long-term facility for adjudicated male and female youthful offenders (ages 10-17). Historically, the facility has been used to serve male juveniles only, and then male juveniles simultaneously with young adult male populations. In 2025, the state’s adjudicated youthful female offenders (10-17) moved to Pine Hills for the first time in the facility’s history. Pine Hills is a fully functioning school.
