JOB OVERVIEW - This position is responsible for the overall safety and security of inmates, staff and visitors of Montana State Prison and Montana Correctional Enterprises. Correctional Officers help ensure the institution is operated for the safety of the public, as well as the incarceration, treatment and rehabilitation of the inmate population.

  • Supervise adult male felons while in the custody of Montana State Prison, on or off property. Correctional Officers are responsible for a wide variety of security duties relative to the safe, orderly and cost effective operation grounds, performing on including, but not limited to, conducting thorough inspections and searches of inmates, buildings and grounds,  performing security observation, preparing documentation regarding institutional matters such as incident reports, disciplinary documentation, counts and logs, operating security equipment, recognizing critical behavior, restraining and controlling offenders,  and responding to emergencies.
  • Enforce and follow rules and regulations including, but not limited to written and/or oral directives, post orders, and special instructions in addition to policies and procedures which dictate daily, routine and emergency procedures. 
  • Serve as a member of the Unit Management Team to oversee all aspects of the basic needs and welfare of adult male felons in the custody of Montana State Prison, on or off property. Participate in case management and classification procedures.
  • Provide intervention for adult male felons in the custody of Montana State Prison by facilitating and/or overseeing counseling, medical care, first aide, clothing & laundry, janitorial and housekeeping supplies, transportation of inmates, meals, movement, jobs and other services as required.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license are required. 
  • Two years of progressively responsible Correctional Officer experience is preferred.
  • A background check including criminal records check, child/patient/offender abuse registries will be required prior to being hired.
  • A background form, pre-interview questionnaire and writing assessment must be completed prior to interviewing for position.

UPON HIRE 

  • Successful completion of the Pre-Service training class for prison personnel.
  • Successful completion of Corrections & Detention Officer Basic Training at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy within the first year of employment.
  • Correctional Officers will be required to participate in weapon familiarization with firearms (AR-15, 12-gauge shotgun, and 9 mm pistol) during the two-week pre-service training and/or on-the-job training program.
  • Firearms familiarization is a condition of employment. Failure to meet qualification standards with firearms will prohibit the CO from being assigned to armed posts or duties.
  • Annual TB testing is mandatory.

  • Clinical data: The most common type of health care data analytics is clinical data. This includes using electronic health records (EHRs) to directly improve medical outcomes.
  • Claims data: Health Services Data Analysts will analyze claims data to help institutions identify trends in treatment which could provide critical financial readiness and planning.   
  • Pharmaceutical data: Data could include pharmaceutical trends, expenses, and healthcare decision making.
  • Behavioral data: Data specific to mental health and mental disorders, pharmaceutical interventions, behavioral interventions, suicide, and substance use.
  • Public health data: A health services data analyst might work with public health data to deliver statistics, infographics, and reports after identifying methods for preventing disease or promoting health within a population.

    This position is a hybrid position located in Helena, MT with at least two days in the office.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a minimum of a bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, epidemiology, or other related research-intensive field.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in economic, statistical, epidemiological, program evaluation, or related analysis.  
  • Experience with Tableau is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or related field.
  • Three years of experience in a position in which the primary job responsibility is providing services to victims of crime; or a total of five years of experience in a position in which the primary job responsibility is providing services to victims of crime is equivalent.
  • Serving as a volunteer under a victim services program is considered experience and should be included in work history.
  • Credentialing within 18 months of start date.

JOB OVERVIEW - This position provides operational business management, direction, and resource allocation for administration at an organization.  Perform operational management functions for the organization. This is a management position that oversees operations, implements policies and is responsible for overall safety at Montana Women's Prison.

  • Integrates public safety, administration goals, public perception, and community, financial, and legal concerns to manage all aspects of the facility assigned, as well as contracted services and facilities.  Ultimately responsible for multiple unique or diverse aspects of the facility and contracts, including the following: a wide range of inmate security levels, a racially diverse and aging population, juveniles (in the case of Pine Hills Correctional Facility), and/or juveniles tried as adults, diverse treatment and rehabilitation needs, medical and ADA needs, daily needs, and facility operations and maintenance.  Weighs and balances risk of management plans for these unique and diverse aspects to maintain security at all levels of the facility and provide for public safety while also rehabilitating offenders and ensuring they receive the best possible treatment. 
  • Designs and manages strategic implementation plans for new initiatives.
  • Manages numerous legal cases for the Department of Corrections and the assigned facility. 
  • May fulfill rare, but highly scrutinized statutory obligations, including administering executions performed in the state. 
  • Serves as expert on offenders and the prison system.  Ensures safety and security of the public and responds to public and media concerns regarding public safety.  Functions as the highest-level contact for legislative inquiries regarding the prison system and develops and makes correctional best practice recommendations. 
  • Demonstrates exceptional ability to coordinate competing high-level variables and develop and influence relationships.   Work demands daily interaction with potentially violent inmates.  Available 24 hours a day for emergency response.  
  • Integrates structured treatment environments, education opportunities and rehabilitative programming with facility operations and programs to provide offenders (which may include adults and/or youth) the treatment, education, vocational training, and care they need while ensuring the best possible security and public relations outcomes for the Department of Corrections. 

QUALIFICATIONS - MCA 53-30-102. Qualifications of warden of state prison and warden of women's prison.

  • The warden of the Montana State Prison and the Warden of the Women's Prison must be persons trained through education and experience in directing a training, rehabilitation, or custodial program in a penal institution.
  • Five or more years of combined experience and education which provides an extensive knowledge of corrections, management, budgeting best practices, and thorough knowledge of the laws and regulations governing corrections required. 
  • Knowledge of the legislative process required.
