Sentence Review Hearings

Every felony offender in Montana may request that the Sentence Review Commission re-examine his or her district court sentence. See 46-18-901, Montana Codes Annotated. The commission may (1) agree with the district court sentence (no change), (2) reduce the senence or make the conditions of the sentence more lenient, or (3) increase the length of sentence(rare) or add conditions. The commission is composed of three district court judges appointed by the chief justice of the Montana Supreme Court.
