How to Register

Montana law provides that victims may receive information pertaining to their offenders. The Montana Department of Corrections provides this information through two notification systems and two information systems. Victims of felony offenses may register to be notified by the appropriate prison and the Board of Pardons and Parole-as provided for by law-of the information listed below by completing and mailing the forms available on this site to the appropriate facility. Any person may register for automatic, computerized notification of the same information by using the VINE(tm) automated system. Additional information may be obtained by contacting the victim information officer

Registering with the Department of Corrections

You must keep the Department of Corrections and Board of Pardons and Parole updated, in writing, of your name, address and telephone number to receive their notifications.

Registering with the VINE(tm) system

VINE provides Three options for callers needing offender information. A fully automated service that is accessed from a touch-tone phone, an operator-assisted service that may be accessed through either a rotary or a touch-tone phone, or on-line at Vinelink.
To speak with a VINE operator, call 1-800-456-3076 and press (0) or stay on the line.
To utilize the fully automated service, call 1-800-456-3076 from a touch-tone phone and follow their directions.
You must provide them with:

  1. the offender's adult offender(A0)number or the offender's name. ( When locating an offender by name, VINE may request a middle initial because more than one offender may have the same first and last name.)
  2. a telephone number where you wish to be notified (do not register a number that rings to a switchboard.)
  3. a four digit PIN number ( VINE uses it to confirm that you received their notification message)
