Visitor Policy

Each institution sets visiting hours and policies, which are subject to change. Visiting is considered a privilege for the offender and can be revoked. Visitors must be approved for visitation prior to their arrival. At Montana State Prison, for example, an advance notice of three days and a background check is required. For details on visiting, contact the facility at the phone number provided below.

Non-contact visits usually allow the visitor and inmate to view each other through a window.

Contact during contact visits is limited to handholding and a brief hug or embrace, at the beginning and at the end of the visit.
